Summary of the Book
Rose is a dhampir, which means that she is half-vampire and half-human. She is training to be a guardian at her school, St. Vladimir’s Academy, with many other who are just like her. There are both good and bad vampires that exist in the world. The good vampires are the Moroi who can co-exist with humans without causing harm to them. They only take blood from donors, and can control any one of the four elements: water, earth, fire and air. The Strigoi are the evil, blood-sucking vampires who drink for the very purpose of killing. The dhampir are trained to be guardians for the Moroi, and are required to kill a Strigoi using their education. Princess Vasilisa Dragomir, Rose’s best friend, is a Moroi and is the last of her line. Rose intends to protect her from her enemies who wish to capture her and use her for their evil plans.
